The village of Shenstone
Historically, Shenstone village was recorded in the Domesday Book as a settlement covering around 380 acres, with a large wood and a mill.
The first clear reference to a church was in 1129 where records show its financial tithes were appropriated to the abbey of Oseney in Oxfordshire.
Back in the 12th century the population of Shenstone was recorded to be 125 but today the it has a thriving community of over 3000 residents.
The village has many amenities including five pubs, local shops, a doctors surgery, chemist, a dentist, a community library, a main line railway station, post office, village halls, playing fields a school and two churches details as below.

Shenstone Seniors Saturday Brunch Club
Recognising the need for a place where older residents of the parish can come for a quiet cuppa, some delicious warm treats and a chat with friends, Mary Jones and a small group of volunteers will be offering a monthly
“Saturday Morning Brunch” from 10.0 am to 12.0 pm on the first Saturday in the month at the Wesley Hall in Trinity church.
Each month there will be bacon or sausage baps, Buttermilk pancakes with Cherry Compote and breakfast pastries, plus of course tea and coffee.
All of the food on offer will be freshly cooked or Baked and each month there will be “special” items on the menu.
In addition to the food being served, customers will be able to buy home made take-away cakes and pastries etc.
Future events will sponsor fund raising stalls for local groups to sell items in support of their organisation.
Shenstone Seniors Light Lunch Club
On the third Saturday of every month, Val, Brenda and the team provide a light lunch for the older residents of Shenstone.
The lunches are served at the Wesley Hall in Trinity Methodist church from 12.0 pm to 2.0 pm.
There will be a main course and desert, followed by tea or coffee and biscuits for a set price of £5.
The Old Tower
The keys are available from the library to see inside but visitors cannot go onto the roof unescorted.
We decorated the Tower with lights for Christmas.
We welcome visits from any group or organisation within the village or from further afield – please just get in touch with us through the library or parish office.

Tai Chi Chuan
Tai Chi Chuan has many benefits to ones health and well-being regardless of your age or present fitness levels. A low impact gentle form of exercise suitable for all. Slow graceful movements encourage relaxation, deep breathing, balance and coordination; the result being a calmer, healthier, stronger and more confident individual.

The Shenstone Baby and Toddler Group
The Shenstone Baby and Toddler Group meets every Wednesday at 9:30 until 11:30 at St Johns Hall, Shenstone.
We are a volunteer run, community group which offer a friendly and safe environment for little ones to play, explore and share a snack whilst the mummy’s, daddy’s, grandparents etc enjoy a brew and a chat.
The age range is 0 to 4 years and we have toys suitable to entice and entertain all these ages.
It’s £2 for the first child and £1 extra for siblings.

Fancy a walk?
Shenstone Strollers meet every Wednesday outside no.4 Footherley Road at 9.30 am. Their walks are from local rural locations, usually around 3 – 5 miles at a “gentle” pace. Everyone welcome.

Norton Classic Motorcycle Club
We are a Classic Motorcycle Club and we meet every 4th Tuesday from approximately 8 pm at the Shenstone Pavillion Club. We welcome anyone who has an interest in motorbikes, so please come along and join us.

A Home Reader service for those unable to get to us. Large Print and talking books can be ordered by phone and are delivered free to parish residents.
Free PC access to the internet – printing available at a small fee, and a free one-to-one IT Buddy service to help you with your IT skills. There is also a photocopying service – at a small fee.
We have an Evening Reading Group which meets at 7.30 pm on the second Thursday of the month, and an Afternoon Reading Group which meets at 2.15 pm on the second Tuesday of the month. There is no charge and all are welcome. The Local History Group also meet in the library between 10.0 am middayon the second Wednesday of the month.
Every Tuesday during term time we host a Baby Bounce and Rhyme session for the under 5’s, from 10.30 am to 11.00 am. All welcome.

St John’s plays a focal role in the life of Shenstone, maintaining a Christian presence in our village where a church has stood since Anglo-Saxon times.

Trinity Methodist Church
Welcome to Trinity Methodist Church Our influence on the village life of Shenstone is manifested in significant ways.
We have developed a collaborative relationship with the local parish church of St John the Baptist with a schedule of regular joint events through the year at both locations, and a substantial contribution to the biennial village festival.
Our musicians and singers play a vital role in combined services and we promote frequent events such as concerts and recitals open to all.
The church occupies a corner site at a major entrance point to the village, and provides a welcoming face to arrivals from the rail link and from the western approach.
We have invested resources to creating a pleasant environment from the church site, installing a sensory garden and a walkway through the grounds.
The community rooms are well used by local and visiting groups, catering for all ages. With its easy access by road and rail, the church and community rooms create a versatile and flexible ‘away-day’ location.

The Village Hall
Shenstone Village Hall is an ideal venue for weddings, family celebrations, children’s parties etc.
The main hall is also great for sporting and other activity sessions. It has it’s own car park which can accommodate over 40 cars, and is situated at the end of Barnes road, next to the Playing Field. Post code WS14 0LT.

There is a Main Hall which measures 32ft by 52ft, with a stage at one end. It has a polished wooden floor and a high ceiling.
There is a service hatch which gives access to the kitchen from the hall.
There is a modern, commercial standard kitchen which was completely refurbished in August 2019
There is smaller Lounge Area which measures 18 ft by 46 ft, which is carpeted and contains comfortable chairs.
This also has a service hatch into the kitchen.
Finally, the Committee Room is an ideal size for meetings and presentations.

Wesley Hall
Trinity Methodist Church, New Road, WS14 0NQ, has a suite of community rooms, comprising a Hall (capacity 75), an attractive Upper Room (capacity 25), a comfortable Foyer Room (capacity 18), and a Small Meeting Room (capacity 6).
The facilities include a modern kitchen and toilets (including for disabled people).
The facilities are available for occasional hire.
The suite of rooms is especially suitable for small training events and Away Days, and the Hall is a popular venue for children’s parties.
It has its own car park with up to18 parking spaces.
Wesley Hall is conveniently located in the heart of the village at the junction of New Road and Station Road.
It is right opposite to the train station, just 5 minutes travel time from Lichfield City Station and approximately 35 minutes from Birmingham New Street.

St John’s Church Hall
The church hall is situated close to St John the Baptists church on St John’s Hill.
It has a large car park and is just 5 minutes walk from Shenstone railway station.
Our hall offers a large carpeted space 12 m by 9 m.
It has a recently refurbished kitchen which now offers a new cooker with induction hob and double oven, and a domestic dishwasher.

The Lammas land is an area of natural green space bounded by Bourne Brook, which runs along its northern side, and Footherly Brook on its Western side.
It was originally “common land with grazing rites” and dates back to the middle ages when grazing was only permitted after the crops had been harvested – from Lammas Day (1st August) to Candlemas (1st February).
The path to the land from Pinfold Hill is along the old ‘drift road’ which originally crossed private fields, and now crosses the Millbrook housing estate.
It can be seen that this has been worn away, below the level of the base of the hedges on either side, by long usage by herds of beasts moving to and fro.
In late 1998 the Parish Council held a public meeting to enable the villagers to air their views on the future of the land and with the aim of setting up a management committee. The overwhelming views were to keep it much in its current state as a lightly managed natural area.
This we have endeavoured to do with regular cutting, some tree planting and provision of a stone path through the site.
We have now created a number of areas with different characters. Starting at the Birmingham Road end, the first section is a lightly wooded area, passing into an open area in which we are trying to develop a waterside flower meadow, then passing on to a narrow, winding, stream-side path.
This then leads to an open hay meadow, which extends up to the railway. Passing under the railway the path leads to the Little Holmes, an area of a wilder and overgrown nature extending to Lynne Lane opposite the railway station.
Shenstone Playing Fields
Shenstone Playing Fields were gifted to the residents of Shenstone and the surrounding area by local farmers for the playing of formal and informal games to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.
In 1964, Shenstone Playing Fields Management Committee became a Registered Charity (No. 701404), with the aim of maintaining and managing the playing fields for Shenstone and its neighbourhood.
In 1968 Shenstone Pathfinder football club was formed and along with Shenstone Cricket Club, both clubs used the playing fields as their base, enabling local people to play in competitive teams.
During the 1990’s the decision to site the play area by the village hall so that it could be used alongside an after-school facility, resulted in making the cricket pitch too small for adult games, and Shenstone Cricket Club moved to Hammerwich.
Alongside a new play area, outdoor keep fit equipment and a Multi-Use Games Area (which can be used for basketball and football) were installed thanks to grant funding.
Alongside the children’s play area, the playing fields has a full-size football pitch and a separate 5-a-side training pitch which is used by youth football teams and 1-on-1 football coaching.

In June 2023 a new committee was formed with a group of volunteers who were keen to make improvements to the playing fields for the benefit of the villagers and local area. The committee are working hard to implement improvements to both the main and training football pitches, along with a brand-new children’s play area.
There will be fundraising events planned over the year to help with the cost of maintaining and improving the playing fields including the return of the popular village event the Shenstone 10k Fun Run.
Shenstone Playing Fields Management Committee are solely responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the playing fields (funded entirely by the Charity) and are always open to help from volunteers and interested parties.
