The protection of the countryside surrounding Stonnall and the impact it has had on village life was recognised and formalised in 1997 with the creation of the Stonnall Conservation Society, with the aims of protecting the natural surroundings and its wildlife.
During the 25 years since its formation the Society has carried out many projects with volunteers. Projects range from restoring hedge rows, planting wildflowers, producing the book ‘Discovering Stonnall’ and holding monthly meetings. In 2000 the Society completed the restoration of the village Pound in Church Lane. Historic England in May 2016 informed Stonnall Conservation Society that the Stonnall Animal Pound was now a Grade 11 listed building. Other conservation projects have been achieved since 2000. From a conservation point of view Stonnall village has been supported by the Society for the preservation of its current environment. Much work needs to be continued if the village is to retain and improve its existing environment.
After 25 years the Society is in good shape both financially and with the numbers of attendees at our monthly meetings. But the Society needs your help/support now in running the month-on-month arrangements if it is to continue beyond 2023.
Your help/support can vary from arranging the chairs and tables for the monthly meetings, to influencing the future direction of the conservation measures by attending other meetings. Whatever you can fit in to your busy lives.
Please contact us on either 01543 374629 or 01543 328711 if you can help in any way with prolonging the future of our Society.
